Western Museum & Remington Park

The temperature dropped about 30 degrees over night and brought the wind with it. Actually, I forgot to mention the wind, which made it difficult to drive on the second day. Ted and Dennis especially struggled keeping their ‘rigs’ under control and had to slow down to keep steady. We hope tomorrow the wind will die before we head to Santa Fe.

We spent the entire morning at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. Lots of wonderful western paintings, sculpture and collections fill the large galleries. The Museum in Cody, Wyoming was similar but this one is a gem too. The guys especially enjoyed the firearms. Janet and I liked the Western Performer Gallery with lots of memorabilia from Western movies and singers. We watched our share of Bonanza, Gunsmoke and the Big Valley. We are our father’s daughters. He would have so loved this museum.

The wind and cold made being outside uncomfortable so back at the RV Park, naps, reading and NASCAR followed lunch. We headed to Remington Park Casino and Racetrack for our evening entertainment. Dinner at the Casino buffet was adequate, yet overpriced. It turned out to be the most expensive part of the night. I don’t know what everyone spent betting, but none of us lost too much. Janet stayed in the Casino playing the penny slots while the rest of us tried to win at the horse races. We figured it was pretty cheap entertainment. The only down side was the smoky room but we found a couple of good spots to watch the races. And hey, free soft drinks! Tomorrow will be a full day of travel to Santa Fe so we will try to leave early in the morning. I need to get today’s photos from Janet to post! Sorry!
